Lotus root tea

This tea is always the savior of the house when the mucus attacks … normally, coughs and expectorations visit us more in the winter, but this week it attacked… and I retaliated!

The lotus root, wich has a strong Yang energy, is widely used in Japan and I do not know any other food with such effect, helping to release all the mucus from our body, namely in the lung, being effective against most respiratory issues.

As it does not grow in Portugal (as far as I know, but if there are people who produce it, please let me know), I use it only as a home remedy. For this purpose, I usually prefer the dry root, which must be soaked before use. But this time, as it was depleted in all the organic stores I know, I had to buy the fresh root.

This tea can be made only with lotus root, but to increase its effectiveness I prefer to combine it with ginger.

Instructions
  1. Put all the ingredients in a pot and bring to the medium heat.
  2. When it starts to boil, lower the heat to a minimum and cook for 20 minutes. It is important that the fire is very weak so that the water does not boil and the roots do not lose their properties.
  3. Drink the tea while is hot.
Recipe Notes

You can use both, ginger and lotus root, to use in some veggies sauté or any other meal you like. 🙂

    • Hi Lisa. That depends on the condition. Anyway, start with 1 or 2 cups (until 1/4lt) a day. Usually, I don’t like to have anything for more than 10 days in a row. Then stop, listen my body, and see the effects. 🙂 Hope it works for you***
